BAR HARBOR TRIP OCTOBER 2008
Reviving an old Sherburne United Church of Christ tradition, a group of about 35 congregation members, family and friends traveled to Bar Harbor, ME over the long Columbus Day weekend. The bus headed out Saturday morning at 5:30 AM with the first stop at York Beach, ME for a seafood lunch and to view a picturesque Maine lighthouse.
The next and final stop for the day was Bar Harbor with a little sightseeing and dinner on our own that evening.
Sunday was an exceptional day with most rising before dawn to travel up Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park for a sunrise service conducted by Rev. Kelly. After gathering the remainder of the group we returned to Acadia for a guided bus tour of the Park. Following the tour, a lunch was enjoyed at one of the Bar Harbor restaurants with everyone given a few hours to wander in the quaint shops of the village after lunch. That evening’s meal was enjoyed at an authentic Maine lobster shack.
The group rose early Monday morning for the return to Sherburne. No trip to Maine would be complete without a stop at LL Bean and the many outlets in Freeport, ME. The bus stopped for about a 3 hour shopping excursion in Freeport then it was back on the bus for the final leg of the journey.
Thank you to Judy Losee and Bruce Erath for arranging the trip. It was a spectacular weekend in Maine!!
